Case Study of a Large North American Transportation Group

The Client is one of Canada's only National carriers serving all 10 provinces and the United States. The company has over 1000 power units, 1800 trailers and more than 2500 dedicated and experienced employees and owner-operators located in terminals and other facilities across Canada.

The Challenge
The Client has several applications on the System i (iSeries or AS/400) platform. Many of these are transportation packages that have been highly customized and integrated together by the Client. The main challenge of the client is to enhance these applications to keep pace with the business requirements and deliver a higher level of automation to the business so that costs can be controlled better.

The Solution
Systsoft Systems & Software (Systsoft) has deployed a senior Analyst onsite at the client's location, who is able to understand their business and work with their IT team to convert the business requirements into system enhancements requirements. This is then handed to the offshore team for the creation of specifications.

After the approval of specifications, the offshore team develops and tests the enhancements and delivers it back to the Analyst for implementation. The Analyst then works with users for training as well as acceptance of the new enhancements.

The Benefits
The Client has derived the benefit of being able to deliver business requirements much faster and at a lower cost than would otherwise be possible. This is also helped by the fact that the Systsoft Analyst works as part of the Client's team, and hence manages the day-to-day project management with the Systsoft offshore team.
