Case Study of The Stuckey Company

The Stuckey Company is an established jewellery manufacturer and distributor in the USA supplying jewelry to retailers in all parts of the country.

The Challenge
The Stuckey Company had changed its business model and had outsourced most of its manufacturing. The procurement process in the earlier system was largely manual and not sufficient to cope with the current requirements. The sales people had a dialup interface to the system without online access to inventory data. As a result the communication cost was high and there were overheads for holding of inventory. Thus the challenge lay in redesigning of the system to reflect the changing business needs and to remove the inefficiencies in the system.

The Solution
Systsoft Systems & Software redesigned the system in Visual Age RPG to give online access to suppliers sales persons and staff using a simple graphical interface. The entire procurement process has been automated, right from new design development and approval to purchases and delivery of jewelry. The inventory control is optimized through this system. The sales persons are also provided with online access to the inventory to enable them to book orders at any time. Currently Stuckey is interested in increasing the functionality of the system to include direct sales to customers and adding Financial modules to convert the system into an enterprise solution

The Benefits
The Stuckey Company has derived significant efficiency benefits by using the supplier interface module to streamline the procurement process. This has resulted in greater understanding between them and their suppliers leading to shorter lead-time and lower inventory requirements. The sales module has enabled the sales persons to book orders online and so reducing the time required to make a sale.
